Hibernian vs Celtic Match Analysis & Prediction
07/02/2024 11:00 pm
Celtic will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing draw at the weekend and maintain their position at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings, when they travel to Easter Road Stadium to face Hibernian on Wednesday night.
The Hoops’ lead over title rivals Rangers was cut to three points in a draw with Aberdeen, while their hosts now sit seventh in the midst of a tough run of form.
Following a disappointing start to the season, Hibernian did look to have turned a corner as they moved onto 24 points from 17 matches with four wins in a five-game span culminating in early December, but they have been unable to build on that since, failing to add another notch to their wins column in the last six attempts.
Across those matches, the Hibees have added just two points to their tally, firstly ending 2023 with 1-0 defeats to St Johnstone and Hearts, before starting 2024 with a 2-2 draw against Motherwell and suffering a 3-0 defeat to Rangers.
Nick Montgomery’s side were then able to come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 away at Kilmarnock through goals from Joe Newell and Myziane Maolida.
However, they again failed to build on that in their most recent game at home to St Mirren on Saturday, suffering another 3-0 defeat on home turf as Alex Gogic, Greg Kiltie and Mikael Mandron all got on the scoresheet.
Meanwhile, Celtic have enjoyed a characteristically formidable start to the Premiership campaign this season, collecting 58 points from their first 24 matches and holding top spot for almost the entirety of the season so far.
After seeing their lead cut over Rangers in the race for the title by successive defeats in December, Celtic bounced back in impressive style with five victories in a row around the turn of the year, before travelling to face an out-of-form Aberdeen side on Saturday in their bid to make that six on the bounce.
The hosts took the lead through Bojan Miovski in the 50th minute of that game, before Nicolas Kuhn equalised for the Bhoys on the hour mark, but they were unable to find a winning goals and returned to Glasgow with a share of the spoils.

In the 99 previous meetings between these two teams, Hibernian have claimed 11 victories while Celtic have won 62, and they have drawn in 26. Celtic have scored 216 goals and conceded 87 in the process.
