Hearts vs Rangers Match Analysis & Prediction
01/02/2023 10:45 pm
Rangers will be looking to stay no further away than nine points to league leaders Celtic when they travel to Tynecastle Park to face Hearts on Wednesday.
Despite there being just one place separating these two sides in the Scottish Premiership table, Hearts trail the visitors by 16 points.
It would take a minor miracle for Rangers to get back into the title race at this stage with Celtic looking unbeatable at present.
However, the work being undertaken by recently-appointed manager Michael Beale is with the short and long term in mind, and beginning with a 10-game unbeaten run is an impressive feat.
Rangers kept their fifth clean sheet under Beale on Saturday, with the Glasgow giants claiming a 2-0 victory over a St Johnstone side who were reduced to 10 men before half time.
Aside from the Old Firm derby on January 2, Rangers’ upcoming trip to Edinburgh represents the most difficult fixture of Beale’s reign, and one which will not be taken lightly.
Since returning from the World Cup break, Hearts have managed to put together a nine-game unbeaten run, one which has included six victories.
While there was disappointment with only playing out a goalless draw at Livingston on Sunday, Hearts kept a clean sheet for the fourth game in succession.
As a result, Robbie Neilson’s side retained their seven-point lead in the race for third place, their main aim in the league given Rangers’ 16-point lead in second.
On the two occasions that these two teams have met in the Premiership in 2022-23, Rangers have come out on top, most notably at Tynecastle in October when they won 4-0.
Hearts vs. Rangers Head to head
In the 100 previous meetings between these two sides across all competitions, Hearts have claimed 17 victories while Rangers have won 67, and they have drawn in 16. Rangers have scored 193 goals and conceded 79 in the process.

Hearts Team News
With Cameron Devlin being withdrawn during the first half against Livingston, Jorge Grant is expected to take his place in midfield for Hearts.
However, Robert Snodgrass is also in contention, while Josh Ginnelly or Garang Kuol are likely to relace Yutaro Oda down the middle of the attack.

Rangers Team News
Beale may decide to stick with the same Rangers XI from the victory over St Johnstone, with Ianis Hagi not to be considered for a start here.
Antonio Colak and John Lundstram are options in central attack and midfield, but Todd Cantwell may retain his place on the right flank.
