Hearts will be looking to strengthen their hold of third place in the Scottish Premiership standings with a win over Hibernian when the teams meet on Wednesday night.
Hearts return to Tynecastle Park on Wednesday with the aim of making it back-to-back derby wins over Hibernian and strengthening their standing in third spot after a heavy defeat last time out.
Steven Naismith’s side enter the weekend in the midst of a fine run of form, having established themselves in the top three with a 10-game unbeaten run while winning nine of those.
A run of six straight victories in the new year left the Jam Tarts third with 51 points from 26 matches, but they would then see their fine run halted in abrupt style at the weekend, travelling to Rangers and suffering a 5-0 defeat.
Now with their confidence bound to have taken a knock, although still leading fourth-placed Kilmarnock by 11 points in the fight to finish third, Hearts will bid to quickly bounce back on Wednesday and keep the bragging rights with s second straight victory over their visitors.
Meanwhile, Hibernian enter the third Edinburgh Derby of the season looking to get one over on their city rivals for the first time term, having come from behind to secure a 2-2 draw at Tynecastle Park in October before suffering the narrow home defeat late in 2023.
Nick Montgomery’s side have certainly had the tougher season of the two Edinburgh top-flight clubs, currently sitting seventh in the Premiership standings with just 30 points to their name from their first 26 matches.
Hibernian headed into the weekend in a dismal run of form, having eight matches without a win since mid-December, picking up just three points in the process, but they were able to make a crucial return to winning ways as Dundee visited Easter Road and left empty-handed in a 2-1 defeat.
