Hammarby Women and St Polten Women will meet in Wednesday’s UEFA Women’s Champions League tie at the Tele2 Arena.
The hosts are competing in the first-ever European campaign, while the visitors are featuring in the group stage for a third successive season.
Hammarby are featuring in their first Women’s Champions League campaign after winning the 2023 Damallsvenskan title.
As a result of their title victory, Hammarby entered the Women’s Champions League in the second qualifying round for a tricky tie against Portuguese champions Benfica.
Martin Sjogren’s side looked to be heading towards an early exit after they lost 2-1 in their home leg, but they eventually showed great resolve to turn the tie in their favour with a 2-0 victory in the return match, making them the first team to overturn a first-leg defeat in Women’s Champions League qualifying.
Since beating Benfica, Hammarby have gone on to record a 2-0 victory over Orebro and play out a goalless draw in Friday’s away encounter with Linkopping.
Meanwhile, St Polten are back competing in the Women’s Champions League after winning their ninth OFB Frauen Bundesliga title last season.
The Austrian champions kicked off their European campaign with victories over Neftci Baki and Vllaznia in the first stage of qualifying.
They then secured an 8-0 aggregate victory in their second qualifying round tie against ZNK Mura, ensuring that they will feature among the final 16 teams for the fourth time in five seasons.
St Polten went on to beat LASK 6-1 to extend their winning start to the season to 10 matches, before their run of wins was brought to an end by Saturday’s goalless draw with Bergheim.
