Go Ahead Eagles vs AZ Alkmaar Match Analysis & Prediction

25/01/2023 8:45 pm

Go Ahead Eagles will be looking to continue their positive run of recent results when they host AZ Alkmaar in the Eredivisie on Wednesday.
A 2-2 draw against FC Utrecht moved Go Ahead Eagles into 10th place in the table, while AZ Alkmaar continues on their quest for the Eredivisie title after claiming a 3-1 victory over Fortuna Sittard.
Go Ahead Eagles enter the contest in strong form as they are unbeaten in their previous 11 league matches, after losing the opening five matches of the season.
In their previous game, Sylla Sow came off the bench to keep their unbeaten record intact, as he scored a last-minute equaliser to secure his side a crucial point against FC Utrecht.
However, despite an 11-game unbeaten run, the result against Utrecht was their seventh draw of the season and leaves them with just four victories in the Eredivisie this season.
With AZ Alkmaar’s arrival, Go Ahead Eagles will be up against the history books if they are to retain their unbeaten run, as it has been almost 10 years since they last beat their upcoming opponents.
AZ Alkmaar have bounced back after their disappointing defeat to RKC Waalwijk before the World Cup break, being unbeaten since and beating fellow title challengers PSV Eindhoven in the process.
The visitors have not been beaten by their hosts since 2014 and have beaten Go Ahead Eagles in seven of their last eight matches between the two sides.
Pascal Jansen’s side are also in form in front of goal currently, as they have scored 10 goals in their last four matches since the return from the World Cup break.
Go Ahead Eagles vs. AZ Alkmaar Head to head
In the 12 previous meetings between these two teams, Go Ahead Eagles have claimed two victories while AZ Alkmaar have won nine, and they have drawn once. AZ have scored 33 goals and conceded 11 in the process.
