Girona vs Elche Match Analysis & Prediction

16/04/2023 3:00 pm

Fresh from holding Barcelona to a draw at Camp Nou, Girona will be looking to continue their ascent of the La Liga table when they host relegation-doomed Elche on Sunday.
Girona have climbed to 11th through a three-game unbeaten run, while Elche remain 14 points adrift at the bottom of the standings with just two wins to their name.
Michel’s side head into Sunday’s contest on a three-game unbeaten run, having held Rayo Vallecano to a 2-2 draw before securing a 2-1 victory over Espanyol.
The White and Reds have enjoyed plenty of success on home soil in recent times, winning three of their last four matches at Estadi Montilivi, with two defeats coming in their previous 10 home league games.
Given that only six teams have picked up more home points than Michel’s side this season, Girona will be confident of heaping more misery on lowly Elche, who are already planning for life in the second tier.
Elche have only managed to win two of their 28 La Liga matches this season, recording seven draws and 19 defeats along the way.
After going 19 matches without a win throughout the first half of the season, Elche finally claimed their first victory in February before doubling their win tally with a surprise success over Mallorca last month.
However, Los Franjiverdes have since picked up one point from a possible 12, with a draw against Real Valladolid preceding defeats to Real Sociedad, Barcelona and Osasuna.
Sitting 16 points from safety with 10 matches remaining, Elche’s relegation is destined to be confirmed in the not-too-distant future, and a trip to Estadi Montilivi is unlikely to delay the inevitable.
Girona vs. Elche Head to head
In the 19 previous meetings between these two teams, Girona have claimed three victories while Elche have won 10, and they have drawn in six. Elche have scored 26 goals and conceded 14 in the process.
