Ghana vs Switzerland Match Analysis & Prediction
17/11/2022 1:00 pm
Ghana and Switzerland will go head to head in a World Cup warm-up match at the Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
Ghana will make the trip to the Middle East following a 2022 campaign that has seen the Black Stars suffer many ups and downs.
A defeat to Morocco was no surprise for Ghana, but failing to beat a Gabon side without Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before losing to Comoros was a national humiliation.
With Milovan Rajevac on his way out, Otto Addo came in to guide them through the World Cup playoffs, which would come just two months later.
However, the failure at the African Cup of Nations was soon forgotten, as Ghana pulled off a surprise in drawing 1-1 in Nigeria to secure a spot at the World Cup on away goals.
Switzerland offer a better middle ground in terms of testing Ghana, as they are on a similar level to Portugal and Uruguay, two of the sides the Black Stars will face in the group stage next week.
Italy’s omplete capitulation following their Euro 2020 success opened the door for Switzerland to cruise past them to top the group and claim their spot at these finals.
Drawing home and away with Italy was crucial, and rather fortunate for the Swiss considering Jorginho missed penalties in both matches, but a 4-0 victory over Bulgaria on the final matchday saw them secure their place in Qatar.
However, fortunes went relatively downhill after qualification, as Switzerland failed to win any of their following five games, as a draw with Kosovo being the only time they avoided defeat during that run.
That saw Murat Yakin’s side lose their opening three UEFA Nations League matches, but they avoided relegation from League A by bouncing back to win their final three matches.
Ghana vs. Switzerland Head to head
These two nations have not previously met on any occasion and this will be their first meeting in an international friendly.
