Getafe vs Rayo Vallecano Match Analysis & Prediction

12/02/2023 4:00 pm

Rayo Vallecano will be looking to make it three La Liga wins on the bounce when they travel to Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday to face Getafe.
While the hosts sit 19th in La Liga standings after collecting just 18 points from 20 matches this season, the visitors are currently fifth in the table, just three points behind fourth-placed Atletico Madrid.
Getafe had suffered four straight La Liga defeats ahead of their trip to Atletico last weekend, but they managed to secure an impressive point at Wanda Metropolitano.
A record of four wins, six draws and 10 losses from 20 matches has earned them 18 points, which is only enough for 19th place in the table, two points behind Valencia in 17th.
However, there is still plenty of football to be played before the end of the season, and they now have two huge home games against Rayo Valecano and Valencia before ending the month away to Villarreal.
Quique Sanchez Flores’ side have finished 15th in their last two La Liga campaigns, but they have only played outside of the Spain’s top flight for one season since 2004, so it would be a surprise to see them relegated.
While Getafe are currently focusing on escaping the bottom three, Rayo Valecano have their sights on what would be a remarkable top-four finish, with Los Franjirrojos continuing to impress.
Andoni Iraola’s side have never finished higher than eighth in La Liga, but they are currently in fifth place on 32 points, just three behind fourth-placed Atletico ahead of the next set of fixtures.
Rayo Vallecano have won three of their last four league matches, including their last two against Villarreal and Almeria, beating the latter on Monday through an own goal from Rodrigo Ely and a strike from Alvaro Garcia.
However, they are only three points clear of ninth-plced Osasuna, so their position in the table could change quickly if they were to suffer a couple of disappointing results.
Los Franjirrojos actually have the fifth-best away record in La Liga this season, picking up 15 points from 10 matches, while they are unbeaten in their last three top-flight games with Getafe.
