Getafe vs Celta Vigo Match Analysis & Prediction

03/05/2023 11:00 pm

With the threat of relegation looming, Getafe return to Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez for a La Liga meeting with mid-table Celta Vigo on Wednesday night.
Jose Bordalas’ first game in charge of Getafe ended in a 1-0 defeat to Espanyol at the weekend, while Celta Vigo were beaten 3-1 by Villarreal.
After defeat to Almeria last weekend led to Quique Sanchez Flores’ dismisal, Getafe turned to their former long-serving head coach Bordalas to pull them out of their rut and bring about a great escape from the relegation zone.
By suffering defeat to their relegation rivals, Getafe have plunged below Espanyol into 19th place in the table, only ahead of bottom-placed Elche and two points adrift of safety with six matches remaining, so it is not mission impossible for the Azulones in the coming weeks.
However, Bordalas’ side have now suffered defeat in each of their last three La Liga matches and are winless in each of their last six league games, although both Sevilla and Barcelona have fallen to defeat at Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez in the past few weeks.
From going unbeaten in seven straight matches between February and April to losing three of their last four games, Celta have experienced a marked downturn in fortunes and have slipped to 13th in the standings as a result, although safely eight points clear of the relegation zone.
While they can mathematically still be relegated, few will expect Celta to be dragged into a demotion battle now, and next on Carlos Carvalhal’s agenda is ending a worrying trend of shipping goals away from home, having witnessed his side concede at least twice in each of their last three on the road.
Getafe and Celta played out a 1-1 draw during October’s La Liga contest, but the Azulones have just one win to show from their last six meetings with the visitors, who claimed a 3-0 victory in this reverse fixture last season under the tutelage of Eduardo Coudet.
Getafe vs. Celta Vigo Head to head
In the 23 previous meetings between these two teams, Getafe have claimed eight victories while Celta Vigo have won seven, and they have drawn in eight. Celta have scored 22 goals and conceded 26 in the process.

Celta goalkeeper Agustin Marchesin (Achilles) and defender Oscar Mingueza (abdominal) remain out of contention, but Carles Perez was able to train on Monday after missing the defeat to Villarreal through discomfort.
Top scorer Iago Aspas and the much-coveted Gabri Veiga should be first in line for recalls alongside Fran Beltran.
