Getafe vs Barcelona Match Analysis & Prediction

16/04/2023 5:15 pm

Barcelona will be looking to bounce back from a surprise goalless draw with Girona when they face Getafe at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday.
Despite Monday’s result, Xavi’s side remain 13 points clear at the top of the La Liga standings, with 15th-placed Getafe trailing the champions elect by 42 points.
Having struggled towards the bottom end of the table for much of the season, Getafe looked destined for relagation following a six-game winless run across January and February.
However, Quique Sanchez Flores’ side have turned their campaign around in recent weeks, avoiding defeat in seven of their last nine matches to keep them three points outside of the relegation zone with 10 games remaining.
Although Azulones suffered a 2-0 defeat at Real Sociedad last weekend, they gave a decent account of themselves against the Champions League chasers.
Getafe can take confidence from the fact that they have won each of their last three home matches, with two defeats coming in their previous nine, but they will struggle to extend their winning streak against high-flying Barcelona.
Barcelona find themselves in an unfamiliar situation as they look to end a two-game winless run, with a 4-0 Copa del Rey defeat to Real Madrid preceding Monday’s goalless draw with Girona.
However, it is worth remembering that Barca secured 11 victories in 12 league matches before drawing with Girona, strengthening their grip on a first La Liga title since 2018-19.
Xavi’s side have won 23 of their 28 league matches this season, meaning that the Catalan giants have already surpassed last season’s win total of 21.
Having won 12 of their 14 away league matches this season – keeping nine clean sheets in the process – Barca are expected to take another step towards securing the La Lig title at the Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
Getafe vs. Barcelona Head to head
In the 39 previous meetings between these two teams, Getafe have claimed four victories while Barcelona have won 28, and they have drawn in seven. Barcelona have scored 87 goals and conceded 30 in the process.
