Getafe vs Atletico Madrid Match Analysis & Prediction

15/05/2024 11:00 pm

Victory would ensure a top-four finish in La Liga and Champions League qualification for Atletico Madrid, as they travel to Estadio Coliseum to face Getafe on Wednesday night.
Atletico have won three matches on the bounce to move within a whisker of securing a spot in the Champions League, while Getafe are comfortably in mid-table.
Following last week’s defeat to lowly Cadiz, Getafe have lost their last two matches without scoring, and they are now in danger of missing out on a top-half finish.
Osasuna, Sevilla and Alaves are all within three points of the side managed by Jose Bordalas, who will be glad to be back on home soil in midweek.
With a total of 29 points from 17 matches at the Coliseum this season, the Azulones will now expect to at least test opponents they have traditionally been dominated by in a local derby.
Meanwhile, Sunday’s 1-0 home victory over struggling Celta Vigo put Atletico eight points ahead of nearest challengers Athletic Bilbao in fourh position, with just three games left to play.
With less than 10 minutes left on the clock, Rodrigo De Paul scored the decisive goal in Madrid, so Diego Simeone’s side can wrap up Champions League qualification in midweek.
Having lost the first game following their exit from this season’s edition at the hands of Borussia Dortmund, Atletico have since won three La Liga matches in succession, keeping a clean sheet in both of the last two.
After positing a 16th home win in the league, they now make the short trip to Estadio Coliseum, aiming to improve a rather more modest record on the road – Atletico have won just six of 17 away games so far.
Getafe vs. Atletico Madrid Head to head
In the previous 42 meetings between these two teams, Getafe have claimed four victories while Atletico have won 27, and they have drawn in 11. Atletico have scored 71 goals and conceded 25 in the process.

Atletico Madrid Team News
As Thomas Lemar (Achilles) and Nahuel Molina (hamstring) are Atletico’s only injury absentees, Simeone has an almost full squad to choose from on Wednesday.
With the prize of confirming a top-four finish at stake, few changes are expected from the XI that lined up against Celta Vigo, although De Paul will hope his late winner earns him promotion from the bench.
