Fleetwood Town vs Doncaster Rovers Match Analysis & Prediction
04/12/2024 10:45 pm
Doncaster Rovers will be looking to climb into the top three in the League Two table on Wednesday, when they visit the Highbury Stadium to face Fleetwood Town.
The hosts climbed up to 12th position with a draw at the weekend, while the visitors return to league action after progressing to the FA Cup third round with a win on Sunday.
After suffering relegation from League One last time out and setting out to climb back up at the first attempt under the management of Charlie Adam, Fleetwood currently sit 12th having secured 22 points from 15 matches.
No side in the division have suffered fewer that Fleetwood’s three defeats, but they have only managed five wins across their 15 matches, including just one from their last seven, ending a five-game winless run by beating Bradford City 1-0 at home in early November through Ronan Coughlan’s early penalty.
Now trailing eighth and ninth spots by three points with two games in hand and the final playoff position by four with one in hand, Fleetwood will be keen to extend a four-game unbeaten run and make a return to winning ways to quickly improve their standing in the playoff race.
However, that will be no easy task as Doncaster Rovers make the trip looking to go eight matches unbeaten across all competitions and crack the automatic promotion spots at Highbury.
Aiming to make their own return to League One under the stewardship of Grant McCann, Doncaster currently sit fourth with 29 points to their name from their first 17 matches.
However, Doncaster have hit somewhat a slower patch in recent weeks, failing to follow up an away win over Bradford City and break into the top three following three straight league draws with Notts County, Salford City and Carlisle United.
A trip to seventh-tier Kettering Town for an FA Cup second-round tie then followed on Sunday and Doncaster made it seven games unbaten to progress, although after a tricky test, having only forced extra time in a 1-1 draw through Billy Sharp’s 75th-minute equaliser before he scored his second in the additional 30 minutes to secure their ticket to the third round.
Now turning their attention back to their promotion bit with third-placed Crewe Alexandra and second-placed Walsall only one and two points ahead respectively, Rovers will aim to secure another win on the road to climb into the top three.
