Flamengo vs Bolivar Match Analysis & Prediction
16/08/2024 3:30 am
Brazilian outfit Flamengo play host to Bolivar in Friday’s Copa Libertadores round of 16 first-let tie at Estadio Jornalista Mario Filho.
Flamengo were in fine form heading into August, securing four straight victories, but they have lost steam since a 2-0 Copa do Brasil last-16 first-leg win against Palmeiras.
Since that win, Tite’s side have fired blanks in two matches and failed to secure a win in three heading into Friday’s contest, losing 1-0 to in-form Sao Paulo and their domestic cup secnd-leg tie with Palmeiras by the same score.
Despite the discouraging run of results, Flamengo will hope to extend their Copa Libertadores winning streak in Rio de Janeiro to four having secured three wins without conceding on home soil in the group stage.
One of those matches included a 4-0 victory over Friday’s opponents, and a repeat of that result effectively sends them through barring a collapse in La Paz.
Bolivar will hope to avoid losing by a handsome margin against Flamengo in Brazil, keen to enter next week’s reverse fixture with a positive outcome in Rio.
The Bolivian side got the better of Flamengo by ending Group E atop the standings but face the three-time Copa Libertadores winners in the first knockout round.
A three-game winning run and their opponents’ ongoing dip points to a more favourable outcome than May’s result, which puts Flavio Robatto’s side in a promising position ahead of the return leg.
Bolivar collected four points from nine on the road in the group stage, securing a 4-0 victory over Palestino and a 1-1 draw with Millonarios before the heavy loss to Flamengo which put first place under threat, and they hope that result was an anomaly before facing their Brazilian opponents.
Flamengo vs. Bolivar Head to head
In the previous six meetings between these two teams, Flamengo have claimed two victories while Bolivar have won three, and they have drawn once. Bolivar have scored 10 goals and conceded 13 in the process.
