FC Groningen vs Feyenoord Match Analysis & Prediction

Eredivisie leaders Feyenoord will be looking to continue their fine form when the travel to the Euroborg Stadion on Sunday to take on relegation-threatened Groningen.
While the hosts are involved in a battle of their own at the bottom end of the table, Feyenoord are three points ahead of their nearest challengers and defending champions Ajax.
Groningen won just four home matches throughout the entire 2021-22 campaign, and they ahve not fared much better so far this time around, picking up just two wins on home soil.
Last weekend’s away trip to Excelsior did not go to plan in their first competitive game since mid-November. Redouan El Yaakoubi scored the only goal of the game after 69 minutes at the Stadion Woudestein, with Groningen left waiting for their first three-point haul since their shock victory over PSV Eindhoven on October 23.
Four days later in in the KNVB-Beker, Groningen saw their winless run extended to five matches in humiliating style on home soil, with two late goals making their 3-2 defeat to amateur side Spakenburg seem slightly more respectable.
After finishing thid last season, Feyenoord have gone through the first half of the campaign in a determined mood to lift their first Eredivisie title snce 2016-17.
Feyenoord have collected 18 points from a possible 24 during an eight-game unbeaten run which dates back to mid-September, and they will travel to the North of Holland with the joint-second best away record in the division.
Arne Slot’s side resumed their domestic campaign with a last-gasp 1-1 draw with Utrecht on January 8, when Alireza Jahanbakhsh appeared off the bench to salvage a draw in the 90th minute.
Feyenoord then booked their place in the third round of the Dutch Cup with a 3-1 victory over PEC Zwolle on Thursday, a game that saw them register 21 shots in the first half alone.

Sebastian Szymanski and Orkun Kokcu should be named in Feyenoord’s starting XI, having both scored braces against Excelsior in their final game before the start of the World Cup.
