Playing in their first-ever round of 16 match at the Leagues Cup, FC Cincinnati will welcome the Philadelphia Union to TQL Stadium on Wednesday.
In the previous round, the Orange and Blue beat Santos Laguna 6-5 on penalties, while the Union kept CF Montreal off the scoresheet to secure a 2-0 victory.
Cincinnato showcased another poor start on Saturday, but once again, they found a way back, answering the Laguna opener on five minutes with an equaliser six minutes later.
It was the second time in successive matches that this team had give up the opening goal and won, scoring four ananswered times to beat New York City FC 4-2 in the group stage.
Pat Noonan’s side are unbeaten in their last three matches across all competitions at the TQL Stadium, two of which were victories after 90 minutes.
Just like in 2023, Cincinnati have won their share of close games domestically this year, securing a dozen one-goal victories in 2024, two fewer than the previous campaign.
Injury-time goals in the first and secons half last Saturday were enough to see Philadelphia Union progress into the last 16 of this competition for a second time in successive campaigns.
Wednesday will see Jim Curtin’s side play an away game in this tournament for the first time, with the Union losing four successive matches as the visitors in MLS.
Philadelphia Union have not won a game against the Orange and Blue at the TQL Stadium since the 2021 domestic campaign when they hung onto a 2-1 victory.
