Everton vs Southampton Match Analysis & Prediction
14/01/2023 6:00 pm
Two Premier League clubs involved in a relegation battle will meet at Goodison Park on Saturday when Everton play host to Southampton.
While the visitors currently sit rock bottom of the table after 18 matches played, the hosts are just three points further ahead in 18th place.
Everton’s poor form has seen them slip into the Premier League relegation zone, and two important matches are up next against fellow strugglers Southampton and West Ham United.
The Toffees head into the contest after losing each of their last three home league matches; they last lost four consecutive league games at Goodison between April and September in 1958.
However, Frank Lampard’s side are unbeaten in their last 17 home meetings against Southampton, winning 12 of those, and they claimed a 2-1 victory in their most recent encounter away against the Saints in October.
Southampton seem to have turned a corner in their last two domestic cup matches, with a 2-1 FA Cup third-round victory away at Crystal Palace last Saturday followed by an impressive 2-0 win at home against Manchester City in the EFL Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday.
A narrow 1-0 win at Bournemouth was their most recent Premier League away victory in mid-October, while their other away success came back in August against Leicester City, a 2-0 win through a second-half brace from top scorer Che Adams.
Not since November 1997 have Southampton claimed all three points at Goodison Park, but a victory on Saturday would provide them with a much-needed survival boost heading into the second half of the season.
Everton vs. Southampton Head to head
In the previous 92 meetings between these two sides, Everton have claimed 45 victories while Southampton have won 28, and they have drawn in 19. Southampton have scored 105 goals and conceded 152 in the process.
