Estudiantes vs Corinthians Match Analysis & Prediction

30/08/2023 3:30 am

In need of a victory to keep their Copa Sudamericana hopes alive, Estudiantes host Corinthians on Wednesday in the second leg of their quarter-final tie at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi.
Corinthians remained unbeaten since entering the knockout stage of this tournament from the Copa Libertadores, securing a 1-0 victory in the first leg last week.
For the second time in this competition’s knockout stage, Estudiantes find themselves behind after the opening leg, managing just a single effort on target against the Brazilians last Tuedsay.
Historically, Estudiantes have not lost to a Brazilian club at home in this competition since 2008 (1-0 defeat to Internacional), conceding just once in their four previous encounters, while they have a perfect record against Brasileiro Serie A sides in the knockout stage of the Sudamericana.
Los Pincharratas come into this contest on quite the roll at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi, unbeaten in their last 17 matches played there across all competitions.
They have not conceded a goal in their last four competitive home matches, outscoring their opponents 11-0 over that stretch, winning three of their four Sudamericana games played in La Plata by a 4-0 score.
Another virtually flawless defensive game by Corinthians last week has them on the verge of the semi-finals as they picked up their third clean sheet of this competitions, conceding just a single effort on target to the Argentines.
That was the second time in this year’s tournament that Timao have beaten a side from Argentina in normal time, having never earned a 90-minute win against Argentine opponents at the Sudamericana before this season.
With a win or draw on Tuesday, Vanderlei Luxemburgo’s side would secure a spot in the semi-finals, which if successful, would be their first appearance at that stage of the Sudamericana since 2019.
Estudiantes vs. Corinthians Head to head
These two teams have previously met on just one occasion in the first leg of this tie, with Corinthians winning 1-0 at home.
