Estoril vs Gil Vicente Match Analysis & Prediction
18/02/2024 9:00 pm
Estoril Praia will be looking to pick up successive home victories for the first time this year when they play host to Gil Vicente on Sunday night.
Estoril were sent crashing back down to earth in their battle at the bottom end of the table as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Boavista when the sides met last Saturday.
Prior to that, Vasco Seabra’s snapped their run of four successive league matches without a win on February 4 when they beat Estrela Amadora 1-0 on home turf to secure their first league win of the year.
Having gone unbeaten in their final four matches in 2023, a poor start to the new year has seen Estoril drop to 13th in the Primeira Liga standings, just one point above Casa Pia in the relegation playoff spot.
Meanwhile, Gil Vicente were left empty-handed yet again as they suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to 10-man Vizela at the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos in midweek.
In a game where Sava Petrov received his marching orders, Samuel Essende put Vizela in front with a 12th-minute effort before the Vizelenses turned in a defensive masterclass to see out the win.
Vitor Campelos’ side kicked off the year with three wins and one draw in their first four matches but have now lost three successive matches, including a 3-1 defeat against Vitoria Guimaraes in the Taca de Portugal quarter-finals on February 8.
Gil Vicente have picked up six wins, four draws and lost 11 of their 21 league matches to collect 22 points and sit 11th in the standings, but could move into ninth position with all three points this weekend.
Estoril vs. Gil Vicente Head to head
In the 28 previous meetings between these two teams, Estoril have claimed 11 victories while Gil Vicente have won 10, and they have drawn in seven. Gil Vicente have scored 32 goals and conceded 34 in the process.

Gil Vicente Team News
Gil Vicente will take to the pitch without the services of defender Kiko Vilas Boas, who has been ruled out since sustaining a muscle injury against Portimonense on January 21.
Benfica loanee Martim Neto will also play no part in this match due to a one-game suspension after crossing the yellow card threshold with his booking against Vizela last time out.
