England vs France Match Analysis & Prediction
12/11/2022 10:00 pm
England will face France in the World Cup 2022 quarter-finals after advancing past Senegal 3-0. The Three Lions put three past the West African nation without reply to reach the last eight, while the reigning champions overcame Poland 3-1 to keep their hopes of back-to-back titles alive.
England looked likely to concede early on against Senegal, who pressed effectively and made it difficult for the Three Lions to breathe.
But 19-year-old Jude Bellingham took control of the game in the 38th minute by setting up a goal for Jordan Henderson before assisting Harry Kane on England’s second.
(Bukayo Saka was also brought into the fold and scored after 57 minutes.) Gareth Southgate was delighted with his team’s performance, as they showed “a streak of ruthlessness” in another game where they started poorly. If England beats Spain, they will face Morocco or Portugal in the semi-finals.
As Harry Kane became the first England player to score more than 50 goals for his country, Olivier Giroud scored his 52nd goal for France to break the record of Henry and take over as the leader in France’s history.
Kylian Mbappe assisted Giroud’s first goal and scored two beautiful ones to put the game away before Poland made a late comeback with a penalty kick.
Giroud still has much to do before he becomes France’s all-time leading scorer—Eugenie Le Sommer has 86—but with his strength and playmaking ability, Giroud complements Mbappe perfectly and will give England defense troubles tomorrow.

England Team News
The news of a break-in at the home of Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling, who flew back to the UK over the weekend, overshadowed England’s victory against Senegal, and it is unclear whether he will be back in Qatar for the remainder of the tournament. Arsenal’s Ben White is also still absent for personal reasons.

France Team News
Despite missing training on Tuesday with discomfort in his ankle, Kylian Mbappe was training again on Wednesday and should play against Denmark.
The French have won all nine matches that he has started at World Cups, and his attacking partner Olivier Giroud could equal a record set by Roger Milla – who scored four goals at a single World Cup when he was 38 years old.
