Derby County vs Crewe Alexandra Match Analysis & Prediction

Haing come from two goals down to keep their FA Cup dream alive, Derby County play host to Crewe Alexandra at Pride Park Stadium for Tuesday’s first-round replay.
The Rams fought back to hold their League Two counterparts to a 2-2 draw earlier this month, and a home game with Bristol Rovers in the second round is on offer for the winners here.
Crewe Alexandra broke the deadlock in the opening match through Courtney Baker-Richardson 41 minutes into the tie before Elliott Nevitt doubled his side’s advantage.
On th brink of losing in the first round of the competition for the first time ever, Derby side cut the deficit in half as Nathaniel Mendez-Laing’s strike slipped through Harvey Davies’ grasp, before Conor Hourihane completed the comeback in the third minute of injury time.
However, Paul Warne’s side have been irrepressible since, scoring seven goals in back-to-back victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers U21 and Barnsley.
After beating the former in the EFL Trophy, the Rams put three unanswered goals past Barnsley in Saturday’s League One encounter as James Collins bagged a brace either side of Craig Forsyth’s goal, drawing the seventh-placed Derby level on points with the Tykes in the process.
That convincing win also marked a fourth victory on the bounce for Derby at the Pride Park fortress, where they are unbeaten in eight straight matches since August’s defeat to Oxford United, and they are on a five-game FA Cup home winning streak against teams from a lower division.
Crewe Alexandra are all too familiar with FA Cup first-round replay eliminations, having been knocked out in such circumstances during the 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2016-17 campiagns before also suffering a second-round exit to Blackburn Rovers after two matches in 2017-18.
Since then, Crewe have only fallen at the first hurdle in two of their last five FA Cup campaigns, but there was a discernible sense of dejection around the Mornflake Stadium during their opening encounter with Derby, having led by two goals until the 89th minute of that four-goal thriller.
On a pessimistic note, Lee Bell’s side have not won an FA Cup replay against a fellow EFL side since the 2000-01 campaign, knocking Cardiff City out of the competition that year.
