Crystal Palace vs Manchester United Match Analysis & Prediction
18/01/2023 11:00 pm
Manchester United will be looking to record a 10th successive victory across all competitions when the meet Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Wednesday.
While Patrick Vieira’s side fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to their London counterparts Chelsea, the Red Devils beat bitter rivals Manchester City 2-1 in Saturday’s derby.
There was much to like about this Palace side under Vieira during the autumn period, but as the weather has got colder, results have proven evasive for the Eagles, who sit 12th in the table and six points off the top half, although with a game in hand on Chelsea.
While admitting that his side’s performance left him frustrated, Vieira had a few glitches with refereee Peter Bankes at Stamford Bridge, but officiating annoyances must now take a backseat as the Palace boss aims to pick up just the second win from their last six Premier League matches.
Four of Palace’s last five in the top flight have ended in defeat, failing to score in all of those losses and only defeating Bournemouth in that time, but not since September 2017 have the Eagles lost three in a row at Selhurst Park without scoring once.
Manchester United dropped down to fourth in the standings after Newcastle – who are ahead on just goal difference – left it late to beat Fulham, but Manchester City are only one point clear of their rivals, and a nine-point gap to leaders Arsenal in by no means insurmountable.
Arsenal could potentially increase their lead over Manchester United to double digits when the Red Devils visit the Emirates at the weekend, but victory on Wednesday would be enough to lift Ten Hag’s side into second for the time being.
Not snce the days of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2009 have the Red Devils won 10 matches in a row across all competitions, but Ten Hag watched on from the stands with a glum expression as Palace defeated Manchester United 1-0 at Selhurst Park in the final weekend last season, and the Eagles have only lost twice in their last six meetings with their upcoming visitors.
Crystal Palace vs. Manchester United Head to head
In the previous 48 meetings between these two sides, Crystal Palace have claimed nine victories while Manchester United have won 30, and they have drawn in nine. United have scored 83 goals and conceded 40 in the process.
