Columbus Crew vs Inter Miami Match Analysis & Prediction
14/08/2024 2:30 am
One of the most high-profile ties in the Leagues Cup round of 16 will see defending champions Inter Miami travel to Lower.com Field on Wednesday to face the Columbus Crew.
The reigning champions of Major League Soccer progressed to this stage by thrashing Sporting Kansas City 4-0, while Inter Miami hung on for a 4-3 victory over Toronto FC.
A goal one minute before the interval was all Columbus Crew needed to open the floodgates against Sporting KC, as they walked away with a convincing victory.
Wilfred Nancy’s side have suffered just one defeat in their previous nine matches (2-1 against Atlanta United), with their last four victories being by three goals or more.
Wednesday will be the first time they feature in the last 16 of this tournament, with Columbus Crew unbeaten in their previous four CONCACAF Champions Cup games in that phase.
The Crew have won five of their last six matches played al Lower.com Field and have not lost to an MLS opponent at home since May (2-1 against FC Cincinnati).
Meanwhile, it was a rather nervy round-of-32 matches for Inter Miami on Friday, but their attacking depth ultimately carried them into the next round.
Tata Martino’s side spent over an hour of that game down a man but were up 3-1 at that stage before scoring another one just before the hour mark, which proved decisive.
Inter Miami have won eight successive matches across all competitions when scoring multiple times and have not lost when doing so since their 3-1 Champions Cup defeat to Monterrey in April.
This upcoming contest will be their second outside Chase Stadium at the 2024 Leagues Cup, with the Herons suffering a 2-1 defeat to Tigres at NRG Stadium in Houston earlier this month.
In their three away matches in the Leagues Cup knockout phase last year, Inter Miami only emerged victirious in normal time on one occasion, beating the Philadelphia Union 4-1 in the semi-finals while defeating Dallas and Nashville SC on penalties.
Columbus Crew vs. Inter Miami Head to head
In the previous eight meetings between these two teams, Columbus have claimed two victories while Inter Miami have won four, and they have drawn in two. Inter Miami have scored 10 goals and conceded 11 in the process.
