Cheltenham Town vs Plymouth Argyle Match Analysis & Prediction
26/12/2022 6:00 pm
Cheltenham Town play host to League One leaders Plymouth Argyle at Completely-Suzuki Stadium on Boxing Day, looking to extend the gap between themselves and the relegation zone.
While the hosts have not played for over two weeks since they defeated Chelsea U21 4-0 in the EFL Trophy, the visitors eased past AFC Wimbledon in the same competition, in a rescheduled fixture on Wednesday.
After their promotion to League One last season, Cheltenham Town will be looking to improve on a 15th-placed finish, the highest in the third tier in the club’s history.
Manager Michael Duff has since left the club after he helped them to win the League Two title and secure that record finish, allowing former Burnley midfielder Wade Elliott earn his first senior coaching role.
The Robins are currenntly sitting in 17th place, five points above the relegation zone despite having scored the fewest goals in the division this season.
Meanwhile, Plymouth have been rampant in League One this season, sitting at the top of the table, locked in a tussle for the tittle with Ipswich Town.
After a run of seven victories in eight matches, Plymouth have hit a slightly trickier patch of form in November and December, winning just one of their last five league games, before falling to their first home defeat of the season to Port Vale.
Steven Schumacher’s side also made hard work of League Two side AFC Wimbledon on Wednesday, as a second-half hat-trick from Sam Coasgrove saw the Pilgrims come from three goals down to force extra time and penalties, against a side 35 places below them in the English football pyramid.
Cheltenham Town vs. Plymouth Argyle Head to head
In the 25 meetings between these two teams across all competitions, Cheltenham have claimed seven victories while Plymouth have won 15, and they have drawn in three. Plymouth have scored 38 goals and conceded 25 in the process.
