Chelsea vs Crystal Palace Match Analysis & Prediction
15/01/2023 5:00 pm
Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from three consecutive defeats across all competitions when they continue their Premier League campaign at home to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
While the hosts enter the contest off the back of a 2-1 defeat at Fulham in the league, Palace suffered a 2-1 defeat to Southampton in the third round of the FA Cup last time out.
Graham Potter has now won eight, drawn four and lost seven of his 19 matches in charge of the Blues, who will enter this game off the back of three straight defeats across all competitions, including their last two in the league.
Chelsea were beatn 2-1 to Fulham in the league on Thursday, with that game following back-to-back defeats to Manchester City in the premier League and FA Cup respectively, conceding five times to the Citizens without scoring.
The Blues are currently down in 10th place in the table, some 10 points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who have played a game fewer, so a Champions League finish this season is in great doubt.
Chelsea have four league matches against Palace, Liverpool, Fulham and West Ham United before heading to Borussia Dortmund for the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are currently 12th in the Premier League table, just three points behind Chelsea, who have played a game more, so a victory on Sunday would move the Eagles level with their London rivals.
Patrick Vieira’s side were last in league action on January 4, suffering a 4-0 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur, while they were also beaten by Southampton last weekend in the FA Cup, so they are yet to win in 2023.
Palace have managed to pick up just nine points from eight matches on their travels, but they have won two of their last three on the road against West Ham United and AFC Bournemouth, and the Eagles will be looking to take advantage of Chelsea’s struggles.
Chelsea vs. Crystal Palace Head to head
In the previous 43 meetings between these two teams across all competitions, Chelsea have claimed 28 victories while Palace have won six, and they have drawn in nine. Palace have scored 34 goals and conceded 81 in the process.
