Celta Vigo vs Villarreal Match Analysis & Prediction
13/01/2023 9:00 pm
Villarreal will be looking to make it four La Liga victories on the bounce when they travel to Estadio Municipal de Balaidos on Friday to face Celta Vigo.
While the hosts sit 16th, just one point above the relegation zone, the Yellow Submarine’s impressive run has left them in sixth place in the table.
Entering last Friday’s league game with Elche, Celta had not won in La Liga since the start of October, with the poor run of form leaving them dangerously close to the relegation zone.
However, Carlos Carvalhal’s side managed to secure three points last time out, claiming a 1-0 victory at Estadio Manuel Martinez Valero through an early goal from Iago Aspas.
That victory moved the Sky Blues onto 16 points from their 16 matches, leaving them in 16th place in the table, just one point ahead of 18th-placed Cadiz on the same number of games.
Villarreal lost to Espanyol in the Copa del Rey earlier this month, so they now only have La Liga footbal to concentrate on for the remainder of the season, which should help them in their battle to remain at this level of football.
Meanwhile, Villarreal enter the contest off the back of a morale-boosting victory over the champions Real Madrid last weekend, claiming a 2-1 home victory.
Quique Setien’s side have beaten Espanyol, Valencia and Real Madrid in their last three league matches, which has left them in sixth place in the table on 27 points, just one point behind fourth-placed Real Betis.
Villarreal are also active in the Europa Conference League and the Copa del Rey, with club facing Real Madrid in the last-16 stage of the latter on January 17.
Celta Vigo vs. Villarreal Head to head
In the previous 34 meetings between these two sides, Celta Vigo have claimed 14 victories while Villarreal have won 13, and they have drawn in seven. Villarreal have scored 52 goals and conceded 43 in the process.
