Cambridge United will welcome Curzon Ashton to Abbey Stadium for their returning FA Cup round one on Tuesday night.
The two side recorded a 0-0 draw in the reverse fixture at Curzon Ashton earlier this season. The draw set up well the returning fixture, where any win for either side will see them through to the second round on the competition.
Cambridge warmed up for the fixture with another 0-0 draw against Bolton in their latest League One fixture last weekend, while Curzon went down 1-0 at Brackley in their National League North fixture.
Cambridge have not done well in League One as they currently sit 18th and although FA Cup is not in their priorities, they will look to claim a victory in the Tuesday clash as they look to boost their confidence. A setback in this clash will surely severely damage Mark Bonner’s men confidence, which they need ahead of relegation battle in League One.
Meanwhile, Curzon Ashton have also endured a difficult campaign in the National League North so far this season and they currently sit 19 on 20 points from 16 games. The weekend setback meant that they have now failed to win in their last five games across all competitions.
With Curzon coming from a lower league than Cambridge, a win in fixture will surely be a huge confidence booster. But Adam Lakeland’s men have a free hit in this fixture as they will be an FA Trophy action next weekend.
