Cambridge United vs Shrewsbury Town Match Analysis & Prediction
26/12/2022 6:00 pm
Cambridge United will be looking to end a five-game winless run in League One when they play host to Shrewsbury Town at the Abbey Stadium on Boxing Day.
Both sides have been out of action for a fortnight following the cancellation of their previous fixtures, and the visitors return to action seeking a fourth straight win.
While holding leaders Plymouth Argyle to a goalless draw represents a positive result, Cambridge have now gone sene league matches without a goal at home, as they continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table.
With their only victory since October coming through a penalty shootout win over non-league Curzon Ashton in the FA Cup, a competition they were subsequently eliminated from by Grimsby Town, confidence may well be waning within the Cambridge camp.
The Amber Army are in need of points to avoid slipping into the relegation zone, as a side that enjoyed a comfortable mid-table finish last season currently languish in 20th place.
Shrewsbury have not played a game since December 10, and manager Steve Cotterill has taken the opportunity to give his players a rare rest amid a packed schedule, handing them two extra days off at the start of last week.
Their rematch with recent FA Cup victims Peterborough was also postponed due to weather conditions, but Salop will still head to Cambridge sitting 11th in the League One table and just five points adrift of the playoff spots.
A run of three victories in a row across all competitions, each coming at home, has helped Shrewsbury climb up the standings, having previously collected just two points from six matches.
