Cadiz will be looking for a victory that will boost their La Liga survival hopes when they welcome Elche to Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla on Saturday.
The hosts are currently 17th in the table, one point clear of 18th-placed Granada, while Elche sit 13th, eight points clear of the relegation zone with four matches left.
The Pirates recorded a vital 1-0 win over Barcelona on April 18 but then suffered a 3-2 home defeat to Athletic Bilbao before picking up an impressive point away to Sevilla on April 29.
Sergio Gonzalez’s side have a tough end to the season, facing Real Sociedad and Real Madrid in their two fixtures after this one, before travelling to take on Alaves on the final weekend, which could be the decisive game in their stay in the league.
Cadiz were so impressive in La Liga last season, finishing 12th on their return to this level, and they are seeking to make it back-to-back seasons at this level for the first time since 1993.
On the other hand, Elche are currently sitting safely in the 13th spot in the table, so they will be out of danger unless something extraordinary happens in the closing stages of the campaign.
Francisco’s side have not finished higher than 13th La Liga since claiming 11th in 1976-77, so it could be a famous season for the club, having ended last season in 17th position.
Los Franjiverdes will enter the contest on a three-game unbeaten run, defeating Mallorca and Real Betis in back-to-back games before sharing points with Osasuna last weekend.
Elche claimed a 3-1 victory over Cadiz when the two sides met back in December, while they also secured a 3-1 win in the corresponding clash last season, and have also picked up a vital 15 points on their travels this season.
