Burton Albion vs Carlisle United Match Analysis & Prediction
13/02/2024 10:45 pm
Burton Albion can inflict a seventh successive defeat upon Carlisle United when they play host to the League One bottom side at the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night.
The hosts claimed a 2-1 victory over Bristol Rovers at the weekend, while their bottom-placed visitors fought valiantly against Portsmouth but ultimately lost 1-0.
Keeping their heads above water for the time being, Burton Albion’s victory over Bristol Rovers at the weekend sees the Brewers enter the midweek contest occupying 17th position in the standings, although with just a four-point advantage over Port Vale in the relegation zone.
Martin Paterson’s side are therefore far from out of the relegation conversation, but defensive discipline has been a cornerstone of Burton’s play over the past couple of weeks.
Burton have shipped just two goals in their last five League One matches at the Pirelli Stadium, although one of those came in a 1-0 defeat to Lincoln City at the start of the month, which halted their four-game unbeaten run in front of their home crowd.
Meanwhile, Carlisle United could afford themselves a pat on the back for their efforts against league leaders Portsmouth on Saturday, as what was a mismatch on paper turned into a much more close-run affair than initially anticipated.
With just 20 points on the board from 31 League One matches this season so far, Carlisle remain rooted to the bottom of the division, and an 11-point gap separates them from Charlton thletic in 20th position, suggesting that survival is nigh-on impossible barring a footballing miracle.
Carlisle are still awaiting their first League One away clean sheet of the season, but their encounter with Burton at Brunton Park in October ended in a 2-1 victory, their first win over the Brewers at the third attempt.
