Burnley vs Birmingham City Match Analysis & Prediction
27/12/2022 11:00 pm
Burnley will be looking to strengthen their position at the top of the Championship standings when they welcome Birmingham City to Turf Moor on Tuesday evening.
Given the manner of Burnley’s defeat to Sheffield United before the World Cup break, Vincent Kompany may have had concerns regarding the capabilities of his side bouncing back immediately.
However, he should not have worried, with the Clarets scoring three goals in each of their victories over Blackburn Rovers, Queens Park Rangers and Middlesbrough.
Despite automatic promotion being the aim for the Clarets, they are playing with such a swagger and belief that they should be targeting first place, particularly now that they sit eight points ahead of third.
Kompany’s side also impressed in defeat to Manchester United in the EFL Cup earlier this week, a result that should not have a negative impact on their league duties.
Having failed to record back-to-back victories since the middle of October, some of the excitement regarding a surprise promotion bit among the Birmingham fanbase has been lost.
However, even with just three victories from nine matches, John Eustace’s side somehow remain in ninth place and just seven points adrift of Blackburn Rovers in third spot.
Blues beat Reading 3-2 last time out, avoiding a scare as their opponents scored twice in the closing stages, but Eustace knows that points on the board are more important than conceding twice when the game should have remained over as a contest.
The Birmingham head coach also witnessed his side collect four points from their last two away matches, a return that gives them hope ahead of meeting with opponents who are yet to taste defeat at Turf Moor during this season.

In the previous 67 meetings between these two sides across all competitions, Burnley have claimed 31 victories while Birmingham have won 22, and they have drawn in 14. Birmingham have scored 96 goals and conceded 119 in the process.

Burnley enter the contest without any fresh injury issues from the defeat at Manchester United, and Kompany could decide to name an unchanged side from the previous league game.
