Brest vs Lille Match Analysis & Prediction
11/01/2023 9:00 pm
League leaders Lille look to extend their lead at the top of Ligue 1 table when they travel to mid-season strugglers Brest on Wednesday. New Brest boss Eric Roy is searching for a positive result in his first league game in charge.
Brest avoided a cup shock in Normandy on Saturday, 2-0 winners over third-tier Avranches. New manager Roy replaced Bruno Grougi shortly after the new year.
It was a routine and welcome fixture for a side who had endured a tough return to competitive action: they lost both their opening Ligue 1 matches against strong opposition (Monaco and Lyon).
However, their performance against Lyon was particularly disappointing as they were 4-1 down after just 49 minutes. Those two defeats mean they have slipped into the relegation zone, two points adrift of Ajaccio.
After a narrow win over Clermont and a draw with Reims, coach Paulo Fonseca was critical of supporters for booing the players off following their failure to win at home.
Les Dogues are just six points off the Champions League places, with every side in the top seven well within the hunt.
Top scorer, Jonathan David was back among the goals in their draw with Reims, a welcome relief following a difficult World Cup for him. That strike was his 10th of the season in Ligue 1 – only Neymar and Kylian Mbappe have more.
Brest vs. Lille Head to head
Both sides have 11 games against each other with the hosts taking three wins while the visitors with six wins, and two draws.

Brest Team News
Roy made eight changes to the Brest lineup for his first game in charge on Saturday, so he may opt to keep some of those players. Kenny Lala made his debut for the club on his return to French football after spending two years in Greece with Olympiacos.
Top scorer Romain Del Castillo was given a rest away from league matters that day, so he should get a chance again.

Lille Team News
Lille defender Jose Fonte is a doubt for the team’s game against Marseille after getting injured in Lille’s last league match against Reims.
His natural replacement, teenage starlet Leny Yoro, has recovered from a foot injury and is available for selection. Gabriel Gudmundsson will not feature as he nurses a groin injury, while Jonathan Bamba may miss out with a calf problem.
