21/12/2022 10:45 pm
Nottingham Forest will get back to competitive action on Wednesday as they take on Blackburn Rovers at the Ewood Park in the EFL Cup fourth round.
While the hosts continue to hold third place in the Championship, the visitors are occupying 18th spot in the Premier League.
Jon Dahl Tomasson had previously witnessed Blackburn suffer a 4-1 defeat at home to rivals Preston North End, a concerining result ahead of a trip to promotion rivals Norwich City.
However, Blackburn responded with claiming a 2-0 victory in East Anglia, a result which ensured that they remained in third place in the table ahead of their hosts.
They have now gone 23 matches in the Championship withput registering a draw, yet that was the result in the last round of this competition when they faced West Ham United.
Nevertheless, after a 2-2 draw, Rovers prevailed in penalty shootout, setting up an opportunity to reach the last eight of this competition for the first time in 11 years.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest were one of the clubs who did not want the World Cup break to arrive, Steve Cooper’s side registering successive victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace.
That result represented the first time that Forest had recorded back-to-back victories all season, but it feels that momentum has disappeared in recent weeks.
Nottingham Forest lost three friendlies on the bounce to Stoke City, Atromitos and Olympiacos before claiming a 2-1 victory over Valencia on Friday.
Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis both scored against the Spanish giants to boost Cooper’s and Nottingham’s mood heading into their return to competitive action.
With Manchester United and Chelsea to follow in the Premier League, Cooper will be eager to see his side produce a strong performance against opponents who proved on Saturday that they are back up to speed.
