Bayer Leverkusen vs FC Koln Match Analysis & Prediction

05/05/2023 9:30 pm

Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to continue their pursuit for a top-four spot in the Bundesliga when they host FC Koln at BayArena on Friday night.
The hosts are currently sixth in the table, eight points behind fourth-placed Freiburg, while Koln occupy 11th place with 35 points from their 30 league matches.
Leverkusen will enter the contest off the back of a goalless draw with Union Berlin last weekend, which extended their unbeaten run in the league to nine matches.
Xabi Alonso’s side have won six of their last eight Bundesliga matches, with the run of form seeing them rise into sixth place, eight points behind fourth-placed Freiburg in the race to qualify for the group stage of next season’s Champions League.
The hosts have picked up 26 points from their 15 home league matches this season, and they will be hosting a Koln side who have won just three Bundesliga away games in 2022-23.
Koln head into Friday’s contest off the back of a 1-0 home defeat to Freiburg, which proved to be their first loss in the Bundesliga since March 23.
Steffen Baumgart’s side are just seven points ahead of 16th-placed Bochum, so they will be looking over their shoulders at a crucial stage of the season, especially if Leverkusen win in Friday’s contest.
Koln claimed a 1-0 victory over Leverkusen in the corresponding match last season, but the Black and Reds won 2-1 in the reverse fixture last November.
Bayer Leverkusen vs. FC Koln Head to head
In the 69 previous meetings between these two teams, Leverkusen have claimed 27 victories while Koln have won 17, and they have drawn in 25. Koln have scored 90 goals and conceded 109 in the process.
