24/11/2022 8:45 pm
Barcelona Women will be looking to maintain their perfect record across all competitions when they host Bayern Munich Women in the Women’s Champions League at the Spotify Camp Nou on Thursday.
Like their hosts, Bayern have won their opening two group matches, and they have the chance to continue their fine run of form after winning their last four competitive games.
Barcelona have been a formidable force across domestic and European competition this season, winning 11 successive matches.
In that period, the Catalan giants have picked up an impressive 50-goal tally, while they have only conceded on three occasions.
A siginificant propotion of those goals came in a memorable 9-0 victory over Benfica on matchday one, while in their most recent Champions League game, they claimed a comfortable 4-1 victory over Rosengard.
After winning the Champions League in the 2020-21 campaign and reaching the final last season, Thursday’s hosts look wel-prepared to challenge for the European title this season.
Meanwhile, Bayern are level on six points with their opponents, although they sit in second place due to Barcelona’s superior goal difference.
If Bayern are to become the first team to take points off Barcelona this season, they will need to start better than they have in their previous two group matches.
Bayern came from a goal down to defeat Rosengard, while they had to turn around a two-goal deficit to claim a 3-2 victory over Benfica through Georgia Stanway’s 98th-minute winner.
In the most recent encounter, Bayern saw off MSV Duisburg in the DFB-Pokal to claim a 7-0 victory that also represented their fourth straight victory across all competitions.
Thursday’s visitors have won all four matches in the Champions League this season, but they will be full aware that they will have to be at their very best to avoid defeat against Barcelona.
