Auxerre vs Paris Saint-Germain Match Analysis & Prediction

21/05/2023 9:45 pm

Auxerre play host to Paris Saint-Germain at the Stade de I’Abbe Deschamps on Sunday, in a game that could potentially secure title glory for the perenial champions.
PSG enter the contest six points clear of Lens at the top of the table, while the hosts are dangerously sitting in 16th place, just one point clear of the relegation zone.
Picking up just two points from their last 12 in Ligue 1, Auxerre are sitting just above danger in 16th place – one place and point better off than Nantes in the final relegation spot – as the already-doomed Ajaccio, Troyes and Angers wait to learn who the fourth member of their Ligue 2-bound quartet will be.
An admirable run of resilience since Christophe Pelissier took charge has at least allowed Auxerre to propel themselves out of the relegation zone for the time being, as last weekend’s reverse against Brest was just their third defeat from their last 13 Ligue 1 matches, all of which have come on rival territory.
Auxerre will bring a six-game unbeaten run at the Stade de I’Abbe Deschamps into their meeting with PSG; taking points off Lyon, Rennes and Lille in that period, but such a sequence may not count for much against the Parisians.
Entering Sunday’s contest six points clear of Lens and eight better off than Marseilel, PSG will officially retain their title if they can better the former’s result against Lorient this weekend, while victory for all three podium clubs would leave the champions needing just one point from their final two games to lift the trophy once more.
Christophe Galtier’s side travel to Auxerre having won each of their last five Ligue 1 away matches; scoring at least two goals on each occasion, although just two clean sheets from their last 10 on the road may offer their relegation-battling hosts a shred of hope.
Les Parisiens barely needed to get out of second gear to beat Auxerre 5-0 at the Parc des Princes in November, but they have peculiarly failed to win any of their three Ligue 1 matches at the Stade de I’Abbe Deschamps since a Stephane Sessegnon brace in a 2-1 victory in the 2008-09 campaign.

Auxerre Team News
Auxerre may only have one fitness concern to deal with, as striker M’Baye Niang was unavailable last weekend through illness and will need closer assessment ahead of kickoff.
Striker Nuno Da Costa only manager to complete 64 minutes of the defeat to Brest as Pelissier monitored a previous adductor concern, so an immediate recall might be in order.

Paris Saint-Germain Team News
PSG remain without Neymar (ankle), Presnel Kimpembe (Achilles), Nordi Mukiele (thigh) and Nuno Mendes (hamstring), while Timothee Pembele is still struggling with a knee injury.
Teenage protege Warren Zaire-Emery will likely be drafted in to cover for the suspended Hakimi once more, while Hugo Ekitike should form a three-man strikeforce with Messi and Mbappe once more.
