Austria vs Moldova Match Analysis & Prediction

07/09/2023 9:30 pm

Before turning their attention to Euro 2024 qualifying, Austria and Moldova will meet at the Raiffeisen Arena in an international friendly on Thursday night.
The hosts are enjoying a six-game unbeaten streak, while Moldova return to action in a positive mood after defeating Poland in their most recent match.
Former Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick appears to have found his feet as Austria boss after his tenure got off to a shaky start with his first six matches in charge only producing one win, one draw and four defeats.
Since suffering a 3-1 defeat to Croatia in September 2022, Austria have embarked on an encouraging run of form, consisting of five victories and one draw.
After defeating Andorra and Italy in friendlies, Austria began their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with home victories over Azerbaijan and Estonia, before picking up a point away to Belgium.
In their most recent game, Rangnick’s side claimed a 2-0 victory over Sweden through two late goals from Christoph Baumgartner, ensuring his country rounded off the June international window in top spot.
Although Austria will have one eye on Tuesday’s trip to Sweden in Euro 2024 qualifying, they will be seeking a positive result in Thursday’s friendly to extend their unbeaten run to seven matches.
Meanwhile, Moldova celebrated their first win since September 2022 during the previous international break in June when they produced a surprise comeback to beat Poland 3-2.
Having collected five points from their four qualifiers, Serghei Clescenco’s side occupy third place in Group E and are one point adrift of second-placed Albania, who have a game in hand over Moldova.
Austria vs. Moldova Head to head
In the eight previous meetings between these two teams, Austria have claimed seven victories while Moldova have won one. Moldova have scored three goals and conceded 14 in the process.
