Atlanta United will be looking to make it back-to-back wins in MLS when they play host to Orlando City at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Monday morining.
The five Stripes won their home opener last Sunday, 4-1 over the New England Revolution, while the Lions suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat at home to Minnesota United.
Atlanta were firing on all cylinders last Sunday, tearing apart the New England Revolution’s defence, extending their regular season unbeaten run at home to four matches.
Ahead of this season, the Atlanta front office said they had an outstanding starter at every position, and it certainly looked like that last weekend as they had nine efforts on target and rarely allowed a scoring chance against the Revs.
Meanwhile, it was supposed to be a joyous occasion for Orlando City last Sunday, with numerous alumni on hand to celebrate their 10th anniversary.
However, their home opener did not go as they had hoped, with the Lions wasting countless scoring opportunities, building up an expected goals ratio of 3.60 but coming away empty-handed.
Costly turnovers, which led to attacking transitions for Minnesota, ultimately proved to be the undoing of Orlando as their 12-game unbeaten run in regular-season home matches ended.
In just one MLS away match this season, Oscar Pareja’s side have conceded as many goals as they had in their last seven domestic encounters in 2023.
