Aston Villa Women vs Liverpool Women Match Analysis & Prediction

21/05/2023 4:00 pm

Aston Villa Women will be seeking to claim a positive result when they host Liverpool Women at Villa Park for their final home game of the 2022-23 Women’s Super League season on Sunday.
While the hosts head into the contest in fifth place in the WSL table, Liverpool are 11 points adrift in seventh.
After enduring a four-game winless run across all competitions, Aston Villa returned to winning ways in impressive style against Reading last time out.
Villa raced into a three-goal lead before the interval through first-half goals from Rachel Daly, Alisha Lehmann and Kirsty Hanson.
Daly then added two more to the total after the interval to complete her hat-trick and round off a comfortable 5-0 away victory.
After finishing in ninth place last season, Villa are all but guaranteed to end the current campaign in fifth place, representing a considerable improvement on last season’s ninth-placed finish.
There may be little to play for, but Aston Villa manager Carla Ward will still want her side to remain professional as they look to complete a league double over Liverpool after winning 1-0 in November’s reverse fixture.
Regardless of the results from their final two matches, Liverpool will view the 2022-23 campaign as a success, having avoided an immediate return to the Championship.
After earning promotion last season, Liverpool may have been fearful of a relegation battle, but they have truly never really appeared to be in danger.
With 22 points to their name from 20 matches, the Reds occupy a comfortable mid-table spot ahead of Sunday’s game.
Liverpool will travel in a confident mood after they claimed a 2-1 victory over Champions League-chasing Manchester City in their most recent game through goals from Natasha Dowie and Missy Bo Kearns.
Having failed to win any of their 10 away league matches, Liverpool’s struggles on their travels have prevented them from potentially achieving a top-half finish, and they now have one final opportunity to avoid ending the season without an away victory in the WSL.
Aston Villa Women vs. Liverpool Women Head to head
In the 11 previous meetings between these two teams across all competitions, Aston Villa have claimed three victories while Liverpool have won seven, and they have drawn once. Liverpool have scored 21 goals and conceded 11 in the process.
