Aston Villa vs Leeds United Match Analysis & Prediction
13/01/2023 11:00 pm
Aston Villa will be looking to bounce back from their disappointing FA Cup exit last time out when they host Leeds United in the Premier League at Villa Park on Friday.
While the hosts suffered a 2-1 defeat to lower tier Stevenage in the FA Cup on Sunday, Leeds drew 2-2 with Cardiff City to set up a replay that will be played on January 17.
Aston Villa claimed a 2-1 away victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in their last game before the World Cup break, extending their winning run in the Premier League to two matches.
They then played four warm-up matches during the World Cup period, winning one, drawing one and losing two, which was not an ideal preparation for the resumption of league action, as they went on to lose 3-1 at home to Liverpool on Boxing Day in the Premier League.
However, they managed to bounce back to winning ways on New Year’s Day, as they claimed a 2-0 victory away at Tottenham Hotspur, but they would then play out a 1-1 draw at home against Wolverhampton Wanderers in their last league game before the cup tie at the weekend.
Unai Emery’s side are now sitting in 11 place in the Premier League standings after picking up 22 points from their opening 18 matches, seven points above 17th-placed West Ham United just outside the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Leeds United enter the contest off the back of a 2-2 draw with Cardiff City in the FA Cup on Sunday, and they are set to have a replay next week on Tuesday.
Although they sit in 14 place on 17 points after 17 matches, they have faild to win any of their three Premier League matches since returning to competitive action after the World Cup.
They firstly lost 3-1 at home to Manchester City on December 28, before closing the year with a goalless draw away at high-flying Newcastle United on New Year’s Eve. They then went on to play out a 2-2 draw with West Ham United in their first game of 2023 on January 4.
After going unbeaten in their last three matches in all competitions, head coach Jesse Marsch will be hoping that his side will be able to convert draws to wins in the upcoming fixtures, starting with Friday’s contest against Aston Villa.
