Aston Villa vs Bournemouth Match Analysis & Prediction
26/10/2024 5:00 pm
A clash of the Basque bosses takes place at Villa Park on Saturday evening, as Aston Villa and AFC Bournemouth hope to extend their winning feeling in the Premier League.
Aston Villa return to domestic duty after a straightforward 2-0 Champions League victory over Bologna in midweek, while Andoni Iraola’s side shocked Arsenal by the same scoreline last weekend.
Unai Emery has proved that his continental nous is not just limited to the Europa League, as Aston Villa lead the way at the top of the 36-team Champions League standings following Tuesday’s victory over Bologna.
Following up earlier wins over BSC Young Boys and Bayern Munich, Villa drew first blood in the second half when John McGinn’s free kick evaded everyone and nestledt into the side of the net, before Jhon Duran did what he does, although as a stater rather than a substitute this time around.
One of only two teams to win their first three Champions League matches of 2024-25 – alongside Liverpool – Villa’s mission to qualify for the 2025-26 edition is in full swing as they are fourth in the Premier League standings following last weekend’s eventful 3-1 victory over Fulham.
Juggling Premier League and Champions League commitments has not proven too tough a challenge for Villa, whose unbeaten run across all competitions now stands at 10 games since August’s home defeat to Arsenal, and the win over Fulham was the third time already this season that the Lions have prevailed after going behind.
Only Manchester City (13) have collected more points from losing positions that Villa (10) in the current Premier League campaign, and their clean sheet against Manchester United on October 6 ended a seven-game run without a home clean sheet in the top flight.
Looking to conquer a fellow Spaniard for the second week running, Andoni Iraola outwitted close ally Mikel Arteta when Arsenal made the trip south last weekend, even if Bournemouth did benefit from an early red card to Gunners defensive rock William Saliba.
However, the Cherries did not rest on their laurels with a numerical advantage, breaking the deadlock when Ryan Christie finished off a slick corner routine and bagging the insurance goal when Justin Kluivert stroked home from the penalty spot late on.
By condemning Arsenal to their first defeat of the campaign, Bournemouth edged closer to a coveted top-half position and now sit in 11th place – ahead of Manchester United on goal difference – as the visiting faithful hope that last weekend’s stellar win is the catalyst for a more consistent run.
That apllies specifically to away matches as well, as the Cherries only have three wins to their name from 13 Premier League away games in 2024, and they are still waiting for their first clean sheet of the top flight season on their travels.
Aston Villa vs. Bournemouth Head to head
