Arsenal Women vs Olympique Lyonnais Feminin Match Analysis & Prediction
15/12/2022 11:00 pm
Arsenal Women will be looking to secure their spot in the Women’s Champions League quarter-finals when they play host to defending champions Olympique Lyonnais Feminin at the Emirates Stadium on Thursday.
The visitors, who occupy second place, are three points adrift of group leaders Arsenal, and they could also qualify for the knockout rounds if results fall in their favour.
Arsenal Women have been in good form in their Champions League campaign, picking up 10 poits from their four group matches.
After beating Lyon 5-1 and claiming a 3-1 victory over Zurich, the Gunners had to settle for a point when they took on Juventus on matchday three.
Although they were unable to get the better of Juventus in Turin, they managed to claim a narrow 1-0 victory over the Italian side last week.
The Gunners recorded a third straight victory at the weekend after coming from behind to defeat Aston Villa 4-1 through goals from Vivianne Miedema, Katie McCabe and Jordan Nobbs, as well as a Rachel Corsie own goal.
Arsenal will now turdn their attention back to the Champions League, where they will secure their place in the knockout rounds if they avoid defeat by four goals or more.
Lyon have recovered from a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Arsenal on matchday one to pick up seven points from their last three group matches.
After playing out a 1-1 draw with Juventus, the defending European champions recorded two victories over Zurich by a combined 7-0 scoreline to move into second place. Lyon know that they could reach the last 16 if they defeat Arsenal and Juventus lose to Zurich in the group’s other game.
Lyon may head into the contest in a downbeat mood after a run of four straight victories across all competitions was ended by a 1-0 defeat to title rivals Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday.
That result saw Sonia Bompastor’s side relinquish top spot to PSG, but they will have to put their Division 1 Feminine title pursuit on hold against Arsenal, as they aim to extend their unbeaten away run to eight matches across all competitions.
