Arsenal vs Manchester United Match Analysis & Prediction
22/01/2023 7:30 pm
Arsenal play host to Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, as they seek revenge on the only team to have beaten them in the Premier League this season.
Mikel Arteta’s side can open up an 11-point gap over Erik ten Hag’s side with victory in front of their passionate fans, while the visitors will be looking to stay within touching distance of Manchester City.
Arsenal’s gap at the top has been cut back down to five points after City recorded their own win over Tottenham Hotspur, but the Gunners – who now have a game in hand on the champions – are on the verge of breaking the 50-point barrier at the halfway point, which would put them on course to match Man City’s centurions of 2017-18.
While rivals supportes enjoy pointing out that their is still a long way to go in the Premier League season, Arsenal are answering nearly every test that has been put before them and are unbeaten in their last 12 top-flight matches, winning 10 of them.
Newcastle United may have ended Arsenal’s 10-game winning run at the Emirates earlier this month, but Arteta’s side have not conceded a single goal since the turn of the year and have all the motivation they need to right the wrongs of their Old Trafford defeat.
Manchester United missed the chance to temporarily rise to second in the standings with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, with Michael Olise’s stunning free kick on Wednesday denying the Red Devils a 10th successive win in all competitions.
Ten Hag’s side have an eight-point gap to make up to Arsenal and a three-point deficit to make up to Manchester City, whose vastly superior goal difference should keep them safe in the runners-up spot for now.
The Red Devils may drop to fourth by the time that Sunday rolls around if Newcastle can beat Crystal Palace away from home, but a 16-game scoring streak certainly serves as reason for optimism ahead of a trip to North London.
Not since losing 4-0 to Brentford in August have Manchester United failed to score away from home in the league, and only two of their nine away matches since have ended in defeat, although they also boast just one clean sheet on rival turf since October.

In the 196 previous meetings between these two teams across all competitions, Arsenal have claimed 67 victories while Manchester United have won 83, and they have drawn in 46. United have scored 295 goals and conceded 261 in the process.
