Arouca vs Benfica Match Analysis & Prediction
01/02/2023 12:15 am
Benfica travel to the Estadio Municipal de Arouca to face Arouca on Wednesday morning, with both sides in the midst of Primeira Liga unbeaten streaks.
As Aguias head into the midweek contest unbeaten in five consecutive matches and will look to keep the ball rolling, while the hosts are still licking their wounds from last week’s Taca da Liga exit following a 2-1 defeat to Sporting Lisbon.
Arouca now turn their attention to the Primeira Liga where they are unbeaten since the turn of the year, claiming one draw and two wins, with the most recent being a 4-0 victory over Portimonense on January 20.
With 26 points from 17 matches, Armando Evangelista’s side are currently sixth in the Primeira Liga table, but could leapfrog fifth-placed Casa Pia and move into the Europa Conference League qualification spots with all three points on Tuesday.
Benfica continued their charge for a first league title since the 2018-19 season as they beat bottom-placed Pacos de Ferreira 2-0 when the sides met last Thursday.
Roger Schmidt’s side are now unbeaten in five matches in a row across all competitions, claiming one draw and four wins, including a 2-0 victory over Segunda Liga outfit Varzim in the last 16 of the Taca de Portugal on January 10.
As Aguias have posted 15 wins, two draws and lost one of their 18 matches this season to collect 47 points and sit top of the Primeira Liga table with a seven-point cushion over second-placed Braga.
Benfica have won each of the seven most recent meetings between these two sides and are unbeaten in 13 of their previous 14 encounters since October 2010.
Arouca vs. Benfica Head to head
In the 14 previous meetings between these two sides across all competitions, Arouca have claimed one victory while Benfica have won 12, and they have drawn once. Benfica have scored 38 goals and conceded just eight in the process.

Arouca Team News
Arouca will be without the services of striker Vitinho, who has been out of action since picking up a severe injury in October’s game against Maritimo.
On the club’s injury table, he joins Venezuelan defender Sema Velazquez, who has missed each of the last 10 matches through a knee problem.

Benfica Team News
Rafa Silva is currently recovering from a muscle injury and will play no part in Tuesday’s game for Benfica, while strike partner Goncalo Ramos was forced off injured against Pacos Ferreira last time out and is a major doubt here.
Should Ramos fail to shake off his injury, Petar Musa will push for a starting role, forming an attacking quartet with Joao Mario, Fredrik Aursnes and new signing Goncalo Guedes.
