During their first-ever Eredivisie campaign in the 2023-24 season, little Almere City defied all pre-season expectations to finish 13th in the final standings, five points above SBV Excelsior in the relegation playoff spot, although the early signs point towards Sunday’s hosts facing a much tougher task in avoiding the drop this time around.
