Al Ettifaq will be looking to make two wins out of two in the new Saudi Pro League campaign when they host Al Okhdoud at the Al Ettifaq Club Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Al Ettifaq kicked off their 2024-25 Saudi League campaign on a positive note as they secured a 1-0 victory over a resilient Al Shabab side in Saturday’s encounter.
After a goalless first at the Al Shabab Club Stadium, French striker Moussa Dembele came up clutch for the visitors as he scored in the 74th minutes to hand them an opening-day victory.
Steven Gerard will be pleased with his side’s start to the season, particularly off the back on an unconvincing run of results in pre-season, where they failed to win four of their warm-up matches while conceding 10 goals and keeping just one clean sheet.
On the other hand, Al Okhdood failed to make a dream start to the campaign as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of reigning champions Al Hilal last Saturday.
Alexander Mitrovic scored inside the opening 34 minutes to set the visitors on their way at Prince Hathloul Bin Abdul Aziz Sports City Stadium, before Sergej Milinkovic-Savic added the third of the game right on the stroke of halftime.
This was keeping with their poor showing in pre-season, where Stjepan Tomas’ side suffered back-to-back defeats in their two friendly matches, losing 3-1 to Ahal on August 4, one week before they were beaten 1-0 by Bahraini side Al-Khaldiya.
