Ajax vs Willem II Match Analysis & Prediction
27/10/2024 6:45 pm
Ajax will play host to Willem II at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Sunday knowing that victory will keep them in a strong position to ultimately challenge for spots higher up the Eredivisie table.
At a time when the hosts occupy fifth position in the league standings with two games in hand, the visitors are in eighth place.
Given the postponements earlier in the season, Ajax’s campaign has been a bit stop-start and they are currently playing catch-up on the teams above them.
Nevertheless, Francesco Farioli’s side appear to be building a head of steam with four wins and one draw coming from their last five top-flight games.
Some of those games have been far more competitive that they would have hoped, particularly last weekend when they twice came from behind to secure a 4-3 victory over Heracles.
However, on a positive note, 15 goals have been scored in the aforementioned five matches, while just one goal has been conceded in their three home games.
Ajax are also flying in the Europa League, with their 3-0 victory over Qarabag FK earlier this week taking them to seven points from their opening three games.
Meanwhile, Willem II will be pleased with their current standing on the back of winning the Eerste Divisie title in 2023-24.
Picking up 12 points from their first nine matches has left them sitting in the top half of the table, four points clear of the relegation zone.
Peter Maes will be encouraged by consecutive clean sheets coming either side of the international break, with a 1-0 victory at Almere City being followed by a goalless draw with Fortuna Sittard.
Having already secured a share of the points against Feyenoord at De Kuip this season, there will be no fear ahead of making the trip to another of the division’s giants.
Ajax vs. Willem II Head to head
In the previous 57 meetings between these two teams, Ajax have claimed 47 victories while Willem II have won seven, and they have drawn in three. Willem II have scored 40 goals and conceded 173 in the process.
