Ajaccio vs Rennes Match Analysis & Prediction

21/05/2023 2:00 pm

Rennes will resume their quest for European football when the travel to face already-relegated Alaccio at the Stade Francois Coty on Sunday afternoon.
The visitors find themselves one point adrift of the top five ahead of the weekend’s action, while Ajaccio are heading for an immediate return to Ligue 2.
Ajaccio’s inevitable relegation was finally confirmed last weekend as they suffered a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, with a brace from Kylian Mbappe and a Thomas Mangani red card helping the champions elect secure a comprehensive victory.
Not only have Ajaccio failed to score in each of their last four matches, but they have also not been able to find the back of the net in 14 of their previous 19 league games, suffering 15 defeats in the process.
Looking at the bigger picture, Olivier Pantaloni’s side have bagged just 22 goals in 35 Ligue 1 matches this season, making them the division’s lowest scorers by a considerable margin.
Meanwhile, Rennes stille have a lot to play for in the final three matches of the season, as they find themselves one point outside the European spots following last weekend’s 4-0 victory over second-from-bottom Troyes, who sit one point below Ajaccio in the standings.
Bruno Genesio’s side could finish as high as fourth if they win their remaining matches and results elsewhere go in their favour.
There no getting away from the fact that Rennes have been wildly inconsistent in recent months, recording just one draw in 21 league matches since November, with 10 wins and 10 losses coming during that period.
Although Les Rennais have won four of their last eight matches, scoring 13 goals across those victories while dispatching PSG for good measure, they have also suffered four defeats while scoring just twice across those losses.
Ajaccio vs. Rennes Head to head
In the 15 previous meetings between these two teams, Ajaccio have claimed four victories while Rennes have won eight, and they have drawn in three. Rennes have scored 24 goals and conceded 13 in the process.
