AIK vs IFK Goteborg Match Analysis & Prediction

27/05/2024 8:10 pm

AIK Fotball are set to host IFK Goteborg at the Friends Arena on Monday night in gameweek 11 of the 2024 Swedish Allsvenskan campaign.
The hosts are in ninth position on 14 points and are seven from third-placed GAIS, who occupy the division’s final Europe Conference League qualification spot, while the visitors are 12th with 11 points.
After remaining unbeaten in their first five league matches and winning three times, AIK’s first defeat of the season came in their sixth gameweek against currently leaders Malmo, but in the following game they responded with an emphatic 6-2 victory over Norrkoping.
However, that promising start to the season has since been derailed by a run of three successive losses, including a heavy 6-1 away defeat to Elfsborg on April 15.
Manager Henning Berg took over the club in July 2023 and he has enjoyed some success, helping AIK reach the semi-finals of the Svenska Cupen in 2024.
Goteborg are just two points behind their upcoming opponents but they are level on points with 14th-placed Norrkoping, who occupy the league’s relegation playoff spot.
That said, Goteborg are just 10 points from the Europa Conference League spots in the Allsvenskan standings, and though it is unlikely that they close the gap, there are still 20 games left to play and much can change.
Jens Berthel Askou – who was appointed manager in June 2023 – has overseen three wins, two draws and five losses this season, and though this is a poor overall return, Goteborg did win last time out against Mjallby.
Goteborg performed badly on their travels last season, winning just three times in 15 league matches, but to their credit they have already won twice on the road this term.
AIK vs. IFK Goteborg Head to head
In the previous 61 meetings between these two teams, AIK have claimed 26 victories while Goteborg have won 25, and they have drawn in 10. Goteborg have scored 67 goals and conceded 73 in the process.
