AFC Bournemouth vs Leicester City Match Analysis & Prediction
27/02/2024 10:30 pm
The Vitality Stadium will play host to an FA Cup fifth-round tie on Tuesday night, as Premier League side AFC Bournemouth welcome Championship leaders Leicester City.
The hosts will enter the contest off the back of a 1-0 home defeat to Manchester City, while Leicester suffered a 3-1 defeat to Leeds United in a top-of-the-table clash last time out.
Bournemouth have had to win two matches to reach the fifth round of this competition, opening their campaign with a 3-2 victory over Queens Park Rangers on January 6, before beating Swansea City 5-0 last time out.
However, this will be a step up in class for the Cherries in the competition, and they will enter the contest off the back of a five-game winless run, including a 1-0 defeat at home to Man City in the league on Saturday.
Andoni Iraola’s side showed plenty of positive signs against Man City at the Vitality Stadium, but they could not make the most of some good opportunities, with the result leaving them down in 14th place in the Premier League standings, eight points clear of the relegation zone.
Leicester have not beaten Bournemouth since a 3-1 victory at the King Power Stadium in August 2019, while they have not managed to overcome the Cherries at the Vitality Stadium since a Championship encounter in February 2014.
This match will actually be the first-ever FA Cup encounter between the two sides, and while the Foxes are focused on securing a return to the Premier League, they know what it takes to win this competition, having famously lifted the trophy at the end of the 2020-21 campaign.
Leicester are currently top of the Championship table, boasting a record of 25 wins, three draws and six losses from 34 matches to collect 78 points.
Enzo Maresca’s side have faced two fellow Championship sides in this season’s FA Cup, beating Millwall 3-2 in the third round of the competition before claiming a 3-0 victory over Birmingham City last time out.
