AFC Bournemouth vs Chelsea Match Analysis & Prediction

06/05/2023 5:00 pm

Chelsea will be looking to end a six-game losing run when they travel to the Vitality Stadium to face an in-form AFC Bournemouth side in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
While the Blues are seeking their first win in any competition since March 11, the Cherries are looking to record three consecutive league victories for the first time this season.
No Premier League team lost more matches, won fewer points or scored fewer goals than Bournemouth between the World Cup break and March, sinking the Cherries into the hotly-contested relegation battle, but they have since turned their fortunes around in impressive fashion.
A run of five victories in their last seven league matches has helped Bournemouth climb out of the relegation zone and onto 13th place in the table, nine points clear of the bottom three with just four matches remaining.
Their latest victory came last weekend as goals from Jefferson Lerma (2), Dominic Solanke and Antoine Semenyo helped secure a 4-1 home win over Leeds United; scoring four goals in a league game for the first time this season.
Gary O’Neil and his men know that securing one more win will guarantee their place in the Premier League for next season, and they can be confident of claiming a positive result on Saturday considering that they have collected seven points from their last four league encounters with Chelsea.
Chelsea’s decision to sack Graham Potter and bring in caretaker manager Frank Lampard is yet to be vindicated, with the Blues losing all six matches and scoring just two goals since the 44-year-old took charge at the beginning of April.
Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford and Real Madrid, all came out on top against Chelsea before Arsenal beat Lampard’s side 3-1 at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.
The Blues have now lost 14 of their 33 Premier League matches this season and are languishing in 12th place in the standings, and they may be forced to start looking over their shoulders at the prospect of entering an unimaginable relegation battle if their downturn in form continues.
Lampard heads to the Vitality Stadium having failed to win all three of his previous Premier League meetings with Bournemouth as a manager, although Chelsea claimed a 2-0 victory over the Cherries at Stamford Bridge earlier this season through two first-half goals from Kai Havertz.
AFC Bournemouth vs. Chelsea Head to head
In the 14 previous meetings between these two teams, Bournemouth have claimed four victories while Chelsea have won nine, and they have drawn once. Chelsea have scored 22 goals and conceded 15 in the process.

Marcus Tavernier (hamstring), Ryan Fredericks (calf) and Junior Stanislas (unspecified) are all sidelined for Bournemouth.
O’Neil could stick with a back four of Adam Smith, Marcos Senesi, Llyod Kelly and Matias Vina, but he also has the option to revert to a back five which could see either Jack Stephens or Illya Zabarnyi handed a start at centre-back.

Chelsea’s Reece James (hamstring), Mason Mount (pelvic) and Armando Broja (knee) are all ruled out for the remainder of the season.
Either Kai Havertz or Joao Felix could be recalled in attack at the expense of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who endured a night to forget against his former club Arsenal in midweek.
